Exclusive property of the family Joly, the vineyard of the Coulée of Serrant constitutes to him a Controlled Origin Label of 7 hectares only.
The vineyard was planted in 1130 by Cistercian monks and is composed today of old vines from 35 to 80 years old. The old small monastery always exists and to a few hundred meters was built the castle of the Roche aux Moines (Rock of the Monks) dismantled during the religious wars.
Always regarded as a rare and single product the Coulée of Serrant was celebrated by Louis XI and Louis XIV like one of the best French white wines. The vineyard is cultivated partly with the hand and the horse because of the stiffness of its slopes which overhang the Loire.
Since 1984, the entirety of the domain is cultivated according to the methods of biodynamics agriculture. Three wines are produced in modest amounts with the property and profit from the principles of agriculture biodynamics : the“Coulée of Serrant”, the “Clos de la Bergerie” and “Les Vieux Clos”.
